When these factors converge favourably, treatment can proceed; when they do not, the appropriate response is to modify risk, delay treatment, collaborate with another clinician, or refer.

Which CBCT Findings Change the Implant Treatment Plan?

CBCT should be prescribed when additional three-dimensional information is expected to change diagnosis or treatment planning, not ordered routinely. The relevant question is not simply whether bone is present, but whether the anatomy can safely support the planned implant and definitive restoration at the proposed site. Findings on bone dimensions, anatomical structures, ridge morphology, pathology, and incidental findings should change the plan whenever they show that the original implant position, dimensions, or approach would compromise safety, restorative suitability, or long-term maintainability.
